Cranguyma Farms U-Pick Blueberry Patch

u-pick blueberry farmFrom July to September each year, visitors to Cranguyma Farms can pick their own blueberries in our 50-year old historic blueberry patch located in the center of the peninsula off Sandridge Road. There are picnic tables and plenty of shade under the holly trees to gather with family for a break from picking on hot summer afternoons.

The Cranguyma Farms Blueberry Patch is open 7 days a week until 6 p.m. Wednesdays are ALL DAY “Picking and Picnicking”  $30/family and $20/couple. Regular U-pick price is $1.50/pound. There is no charge to picnic. Buckets are provided - it is recommended that people bring their own take home containers. Redi-picked berries are sold at Ilwaco’s Saturday Market, Astoria’s Sunday Market and by special order at $3/lb.

Cranberry Harvest

u-pick cranberry farmWith October comes the annual cranberry harvest, typically beginning on October 1st. Visitors can stop by Cranguyma farm to pick their own cranberries during the first part of the month or buy freshly harvested berries, filled with luscious tartness, throughout October. Cranberries are also for sale on the roadside in Seaview and Chinook. Group visits/field trips to witness harvest in action can be scheduled through the farm office.

Farm Walks

“Farm Walks” can be accommodated for groups with arrangements made through the farm office. Walk approximately 3 miles in total through old growth forests, scenic wetlands and the picturesque setting of a working family farm where you will learn about the history and 65-year old tradition of cranberry farming at Cranguyma. Witness harvest in action (October only), view wildlife and participate in the adventure of cranberry farming at its finest. Beverages provided, please bring a backpack and brown bag lunch. Cranberry Museum & Self-Guided Farm Tour

cranberry farmerAlong with housing a fine gift shop, this 1200 sq. ft. facility next to a 10-acre demonstration cranberry farm displays both the history and contemporary methods of cranberry farming. Exhibits include photography and artifacts. Self-guided walking tours of the bogs are interesting and beautiful year-round, but particularly during the peak growing season mid-September through harvest in early to mid-October.  The walking tour around the demonstration farm is open each day until dusk. In November and December, visitors are able to see various farming operations needed to prepare the ground for planting, which is planned in April or May. Harvest takes place each October; typically the first or second weekend, depending on weather.

Hours:  April 1st through January 1st 10am to 5pm daily.  Closed: January-April.  Group tours may be arranged by leaving a message at 360.642.5553 or by emailing cranberries@willapabay.org

Directions: 2907 Pioneer Road, Long Beach. From the traffic light at Pacific & Bolstad go north on Pacific approximately 1 mile to Pioneer Road. Turn right onto Pioneer and watch for the museum on your left.

Ours is a greenhouse production farm on 2.5 beautiful acres. We use locally produced fish fertilizers, compost and cover crops in our certified organic operation. We’re currently producing 5 to 10 varieties of greens and edible flowers for the local farmers market and discerning restaurants. As we expand, we plan to include root crops such as potatoes and carrots, as well as fruits, plums, cherries and apples. Two greenhouses, a 20x48 foot and a 30x60 foot are in full production.

Join us on Saturdays between 10 am and 1 pm. This is volunteer time when people come to help us grow by assisting in putting up greenhouses, weeding, planting, clearing areas etc. Water and refreshments are provided and we’re looking for apprentices.

Our head gardener is Larkin Stentz who has studied with John Jeavons of Ecology Action Grow BioIntensive. Larkin is currently enrolled in the teacher training program for Grow BioIntensive. He also teaches at a local elementary school’s after-school program. Larkin has been growing for the local markets for 2 years and previously taught sustainable agricultural practices in Mexico for 3 years. An accomplished flutist and writer, he also runs Green Angel Gardening, LLC an organic landscape company.

Our store is stocked with organic greens grown right here on the farm, local fresh eggs, and a variety of certified organic produce obtained from regional growers. We are a family-friendly farm encouraging kids and adults to come and learn how quality food is grown. Yoga classes and workshops in sustainable living practices offered.
