Bravo to the USCG for the weather buoy
…But it’s already broken
It was admirable that the U.S. Coast Guard successfully installed an important weather buoy 20 miles offshore earlier this fall. But the rest of the story is far more discouraging.
This National Weather Service device has already broken down, putting local crabbers and other mariners at risk. This past weekend’s storm that hammered parts of the Long Beach Peninsula is a reminder of the absolute necessity for timely and accurate weather forecasting.

Seaport Airlines Holiday Schedule Change
Seaport Airlines has revised its schedule for the convenience of those who will be traveling over the holidays. In order to make it easier for their passengers to make east coast flights and avoid red eyes, they have changed departure & arrival times at the Astoria airport.

Thousands in Pacific County still without power
Thousands of people in Pacific County in southwest Washington are still without power after high winds blew through the county early Sunday, knocking down trees, power poles, and power lines.
The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency says 11,000 people lost power at the height of the storm.
Power was restored to areas of Naselle, Chinook, Ilwaco and south Seaview at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, with restoration to portions of the City of Long Beach occurring at 3:40 p.m. Power may also be restored to some areas of Ocean Park by this evening.
Ocean Park Elementary is closed today. Long Beach Elementary and Ilwaco Middle-High School are open and on schedule. Buses will be running on schedule.

Blog Watch: Storm
“Last week the coast was pummeled by storm after storm. Mother came through the first four with her lights only being out for 2 and a half hours. I became complacent. Friday night I checked the NOAA website and it looked like the storm predicted for Saturday night wasn’t going to be as bad as that which they’d had on Monday. Sunday morning we woke to the news that the coast of Washington had been slammed by a storm that had been much more severe. From a Facebook friend who lives in Ilwaco we learned that not only was the power out (her parents have a generator), but that it was a major BPA line that might take as long as 3-5 days to repair. Although the phone lines were not down this time, we were out of contact with my mother because her corded phone was malfunctioning and her cordless phone had no power. The question became what should we do?”

Blog Watch: Hey Kids, We’re Going on a Road Trip!
“There are still many photos from our trip to Oregon in July that I haven’t had a chance to go through and edit. One bunch of photos I knew I wanted to do a post about as I was taking the pictures. I think my friend Denise and I even used the word “blogworthy” at the time. Since things are pretty un-blogworthy around here right now, I figured it was time to dust them off and share them.”

Blog Watch: Couples photos @ Chautauqua Lodge
“…After that–SURPRISE!–I brought my camera with me and had a 3-5 minute session with couples that wanted their portrait taken–something that would remind them of the importance of romance and love in their live. Here are a few of my favorites.
We had so much fun! Then we headed back home and last night we had to get through one of he windiest storms I have been though. We woke up to electric boxes exploding outside and trees blocking our driveway. I am so thankful that I live in America, though, the local PUD was out fixing up electricity and by 11 am we had heat and hot water! And now I can get back to finishing a wedding that desperately needs my attention

642weather.com Report
The wind storm last night knocked out power to all of the long beach Peninsula and much of Pacific County. I am posting this on generator power. Many trees and power lines are down. The power could be out from 1-3 days depending on location.
