Bravo to the USCG for the weather buoy

…But it’s already broken

It was admirable that the U.S. Coast Guard successfully installed an important weather buoy 20 miles offshore earlier this fall. But the rest of the story is far more discouraging.

This National Weather Service device has already broken down, putting local crabbers and other mariners at risk. This past weekend’s storm that hammered parts of the Long Beach Peninsula is a reminder of the absolute necessity for timely and accurate weather forecasting.
