The 7th Annual Clamshell Railroad Days celebrates the history of the IR&N Railroad-the only railroad that ran with the tides-that ran on the Long Beach Peninsula from 1889-1930. Several tournaments happen along the Oregon/Washington coast with teams of 4 anglers competing to bring in the 5 biggest tuna in aggregate weight. The resulting catch is donated to the area’s food banks. Prizes are offered for the top three teams.

Slow Drag at the Port
Hot Rods line up on Howerton Way at the port of Ilwaco to compete in a coasting competition. Cars have approximately 15 feet in which to accelerate and then coast for 200 yards. To win, a car must cross the finish line and stop closest to the line. Trophies and assorted gift certificates awarded.

Rod Run to the End of the World
This annual classic car show features thousands of automobiles, from Model As to the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. The main events are held at Wilson Field in Ocean Park, but the cars will be seen all over the peninsula. No alcohol or pets at event.

Windless Kite Festival (Indoor Kite Fly)
This indoor kite flying extravaganza features the northwest’s finest performers of choreographed kite flying to music indoors. Long Beach boasts the longest consecutively running Loyalty Day celebration in the nation. The fun begins in local schools with the crowning of the Loyalty Days Junior and Senior Courts. Just before the big weekend, guest dignitaries visit local schools. The main events are on Saturday & Sunday:

This popular event features two raffles with free gifts from all participating shops and restaurants. 33rd annual Beach to Chowder Run. Participants choose Half Marathon on Discovery Trail through ocean dunes, 5k walk/run or 10k run with ocean waves breaking nearby. All races Saturday morning; actual starting time TBD. Eight age divisions, many prizes; clam chowder served at awards ceremony.

Relay For Life
Relay for Life is a fun over-night event which raises money for the fight against cancer. Teams of 8-15 gather with camping gear to participate in the fund raising run/walk. Funds raised aid in research, education, advocacy and patient services. Fees apply only to teams. Opening ceremonies at 7PM Friday; closing ceremonies at 1PM Saturday. [more]
