This year marks Ilwaco's third annual “World’s Tallest Crab Pot Christmas Tree” at the Port celebration. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, December 5th. The day starts off with a Christmas Market located in the Time Enough Books building at the Port of Ilwaco, featuring Pacific Northwest Arts & Crafts vendors and is opened from noon until 7pm. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, located on Lake Street in Ilwaco, will host a Local Author’s Book Fair from 1 until 4pm. The event will showcase local and regional authors discussing and signing their latest creations.
The lighting of the “World’s Tallest Crab Pot Christmas Tree” will start at 5pm at the West End of the Port of Ilwaco. Everyone is welcomed. There will be “the World’s Shortest Fireworks Display“, refreshments and caroling led by renowned tenor Richard Ellis.
The 5th annual Ilwaco Lighted Boat Parade immediately follows. Judging is at 5pm and the Parade begins at 6pm sharp. All decorated boats are encouraged to attend, regardless of size or type. From dinghies to crabbers, little bitty to great big, they’re all welcomed. Starting at the Port of Ilwaco, the boats sail single file through the marina, out to Station Cape Disappointment and back. It’s a beautiful sight, not to be missed. On their return participants are invited to the Imperial Schooner for the awards presentation and goodies.
The Tree and the activities surrounding it are brought to you by a joint effort of the Ilwaco Merchant’s Association, the Port of Ilwaco and the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum.

Dungeness
Sing to tune of Silver Bells
Lyrics by Clint Carter
See the crab pots, stacks of crab pots
Waiting for the right day
In a while they'll be going out crabbing
There they go now, dropping pots now,
Hope they come back real soon,
And we'll all cook up crab and we'll eat...
Dungeness, Dungeness,
it's crabbing time in Ilwaco
Dungeness, Dungeness,
soon it will be crabbing day
Hear the shells crunch,
as we have lunch
Made from that tasty treat
Put another crab on the cooker
Crab for lunch and,
crab for dinner
Now it's time to take a pause,
and say "Thanks for the crab,
Santa Claws"
Dungeness, Dungeness,
It's crabbing time in Ilwaco
Dungeness, Dungeness,
Soon it will be crabbing day

Crab Pot Tree
Sing to the tune of Jingle Bells
Lyrics by Clint Carter
Hear the Ilwaco Merchants Association Chorale sing this song! [2.2 MB mp3]
Coming in to port,
With crab for everyone,
Just like tater chips,
You can't eat just one,
Here comes Southern Cross
And then Crystal Marie
With their big boats filled with crab
Just for you and me
Oh, crab pot tree
Made of steel and wire,
Put another crab pot on,
Let's make the tree go higher,
Crab pot tree, crab pot tree
With all your buoys and lights,
Let's cook up some crab and have
A Dungeness tonight
Sixteen feet of love,
Fellowship and joy
Made with old crab pots,
Lights and lots of buoys
Shining towards the town,
And also out to sea,
Bring our crabbers, safe to port,
With crabs for you and me
Oh, crab pot tree
Made of steel and wire,
Put another crab pot on,
Let's make the tree go higher,
Crab pot tree, crab pot tree
With all your buoys and lights,
Let's cook up some crab and have
A Dungeness tonight
