LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. – August 2010 – King boletes (aka Porcini), golden chanterelles, Matsutake, lobsters, hedgehogs, and other locally-foraged mushrooms will be the centerpiece when Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula hosts the ninth annual Wild Mushroom Celebration, Oct. 8 through Nov. 15, 2010.
For an entire month, the Peninsula’s top chefs, restaurants, inns and bed & breakfast establishments will showcase wild mushrooms found on and near this sandy and wind blown 28-mile spit of land. Wild mushroom menu items, cooking classes and demonstrations, wine and wild mushroom dinners, as well as a dinner (Shelburne Restaurant) which pairs beer (Pike’s Brewing Co., Seattle) with wild mushroom-inspired dishes, will be offered.
Participating establishments include The Depot Restaurant (wild mushroom dinner on Oct. 8), Pelicano Restaurant (cooking class by Chef Jeff McManus on Oct. 9), Lost Roo (wild mushroom dinner on Oct. 15), 42nd Street Café (wild mushroom dinner on Oct. 22), Shelburne Restaurant & Pub (Oct. 28 wild mushroom and beer dinner), Tuscany Café (wild mushroom wine dinner on Nov. 5), and Boreas Bed & Breakfast (wild mushroom weekend getaway, Oct. 22 to 24), where resident forager Veronica Williams will share wild harvesting stories from the forests at 11AM on Oct. 24. The Long Beach Peninsula’s locally found mushrooms include the following: Angel Wings, Boletes, Canary, Cauliflower, Chicken of the Woods, Coral, Golden Chanterelle, Hedgehog, Honey, Lactarius Deliciosus, Lobster, Matsutake, Meadow, Oyster, Prince, Puff Balls, Red-Capped Scaber Stalk, Scaly Inky Cap, Shaggy Mane, and Slippery Jack.
