Blues & Seafood And Jazz & Oysters Will Add To Summer Fun August 16 And 17 On The Long Beach Peninsula |

July 21, 2008 The Long Beach Peninsula will host a back-to-back musical weekend with Blues & Seafood in Ilwaco on August 16 and Jazz & Oysters in Oysterville on August 17. The weekend of food and entertainment precedes the colorful Washington State International Kite Festival, which will take place from August 18 through 24, in Long Beach. Blues & Seafood will deliver the hot Jump Blues of the Insomniacs as well as tasty bites to the Port of Ilwaco on Saturday. Free performances, at noon and 2PM, by The Shavers and the Chris Jacobsen Trio will kick off the day during Ilwaco’s Saturday Market. Evening entertainment will begin at the marina Pavilion with a warm up by the Swing Cats at 5PM. Opening the show at 5:30PM will be the Boogie Bone Band, followed by the headline band, the Insomniacs, at 8PM. The blues will continue at the Sea Hag Tavern, where Hindsight 20/20 will perform starting at 10PM. All-day tickets for the pavilion are $18 per person. For ticketed attendees, seafood, food and drink will be available for purchase at Bite at the Port, at the marina pavilion starting at 4PM. Tastings of seafood and other items will be prepared by Ilwaco’s talented pool of chefs using readily abundant fresh and prepared seafood from the Port’s seafood markets and canneries. Barbecued oysters will also be offered throughout the evening. A peninsula summer tradition, Jazz & Oysters returns to the lawn of the historic Oysterville Schoolhouse on Sunday. A benefit for the Water Music Festival in October, the day will begin with an Americana gospel performance by Lauren Sheehan from 10:30AM until noon. At 1PM, a powerful duo of jazz legends Nancy King and Mary Kadderly will take the stage. Joining them will be Dan Gaynor on piano, Dan Gildea on guitar and Bill Athens on bass. Oysters hot from the grill, smoked sausage, cheese and fruit plates, decadent desserts, and libations will be available on site. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the gate. A full-day pass is $18, a ticket to the morning session is $5 and for the afternoon $15. Tickets for children age six to 12 are half price and children under six years of age are free. The event is lawn seating only; please bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. A two-day pass for those wishing to attend both events is available for $30 per person.
