LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. – May 2009 – New this year, a half marathon has been added to the Beach to Chowder Run and Walk.  A perfect mix of activities for families and friends, the annual event takes place in Long Beach, on Saturday, June 13, and features a spectacular oceanfront course.

Breathtakingly beautiful and unique among other half-marathons in Washington, the certified half marathon course is an out and back predominantly on Discovery Trail, a gently rolling, asphalt-paved path buffered from the ocean winds by grassy dunes. Runners start and finish under the “World’s Longest Beach” arch, just a block from the fun shops, ice cream stands, and restaurants of Washington’s quintessential beach town. Start time is 9AM.  (USATF Half Marathon Certification number is WA09020MW.)

The relaxed 5K run/walk and the exhilarating 10K run also promise great ocean views as well as cooling ocean breezes. Strollers are permitted in the 5K event. Start time for the 5K and 10K events is 10AM; course closure is at noon.

The Chowder Feed and Awards Ceremony will take place at 12:30PM at the Gazebo on 3rd and Pacific Highway in Long Beach. Non-participants can join in the chowder feast for $5.

Chowder Run awards will be given to runners finishing in the top three places for women and men in each of nine age-group divisions. Trophies will be given to the top overall male and female finishers in all three races. All finishers will receive a medal and will be entered in a drawing for prizes donated by the town’s merchants. All ages and levels of ability are welcome and spectators are invited to cheer on the participants.

Registration fees are $58 for the half marathon with a shirt and $45 without the shirt; $30 for the 5K or 10K with a shirt and $17 without the shirt. All registered participants will receive tickets to the chowder feed. For full registration and more information on the Chowder Run, please visit http://www.funbeach.com/events/beachrun/index.html.
