LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. June 30, 2009 The finest bulls, cows and bucking broncos will be on the Long Beach Peninsula in July for the 64th Annual Long Beach Rodeo. This two-day event, July 25 and 26, promises all the elements of an old-fashioned, family-friendly, Wild West rodeo, and more.
From announcer Lee Daggett to a hilarious, agile, crowd-pleasing clown, highlights will include fast-paced and thrilling rodeo events on Gold Buckle Rodeo Company’s top stock; Family Night, on Saturday, with Calf Tails, Stick Horse Races, Hangman Race and more competitions for children; a Beef and Pork BBQ; and a traditional Cowboy Breakfast. Miss NPRA and the Sunsation! Ladies Mounted Drill Team will add a touch of charm and pageantry to what is billed to be the “largest rodeo on the coast”.
The Northwest Professional Rodeo performances start each day at 1PM when the region’s top cowboys and cowgirls compete in Bareback, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding, Breakaway Roping, Calf Roping, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, and Barrel Racing. Those arriving early, before the main crowds, can see equally thrilling runs during the first round of competition for timed events (a.k.a. “Slack”).
Adult admission is $10; ages five to 12 and seniors are $9 per person. The Rodeo Grounds are located at 6407 Sandridge Road, Long Beach. Parking is free.
Long Beach is Washington’s quintessential beach town with access to 20 miles of wide sandy beach, a one half-mile long boardwalk, the eight-mile bicycle and pedestrian-friendly Discovery Trail, two historic lighthouses, wildlife refuges, as well as state and national parks. Browse kite and collectibles shops, one-of-a-kind museums, galleries, and the Clam Pan pocket park. Enjoy childhood treats cotton candy, double scoops of ice cream and saltwater taffy. Ocean-view and waterfront lodging and great places to eat round out the mix.
