Dungeness crab season transcends cuisine.
There’s art and literature and lifestyles and culture. You’ll find all of the above in Washington’s Pacific County and on the Long Beach Peninsula.
Crab-themed art, much like the crustaceans themselves, comes in myriad shapes and sizes, colors and characters. The Long Beach Peninsula is home to more than a dozen art galleries, many of which feature crab-themed art. From fine to fun, crab-themed artwork and coast-inspired creations transport the spirit of the Pacific Northwest to your living room, kitchen or bedroom.
The Port of Ilwaco is home to several galleries, including the whimsical Don Nisbett Art Gallery, the finely appointed Marie Powell Gallery, the collaborative ArtPort and Queen La De Da’s Art Castle. That’s four shops in one stop! And while you’re at the Port of Ilwaco, grab a crab claw bloody mary. At Salt Hotel + Pub, where you can watch the commercial crabbers return to port with loads of fresh Dungeness.
Find three galleries in the middle-Peninsula hamlet of Ocean Park. Bay Avenue Gallery features fine local pieces from a collection ofPeninsula artists. Just down the street is Weir Studios and Wiegardt Studio Gallery. Weir Studios features fabulous glass work including pendants, finished jewelry, fused glass and glass paintings. Wiegardt Studio Gallery is home to the award-winning watercolors of Eric Wiegardt.
The Picture Attic in Long Beach features watercolors, art supplies, scrapbooking paper, custom framing and craft supplies – everything you need to craft your own crab creations.
