English rocker David J’s almost four-decade career has seen him at the forefront of the 1980s post-punk alternative music scene and as an influencer of bands like Nirvana. He’s performed on world tours, rocked the stage at Coachella and been called the “avant of avant-garde” by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell.
Now, David J is headed to the Long Beach Peninsula.
On April 29, David J kicks off his “Vagabond Songs” album release tour at Salt Hotel & Pub at the Port of Ilwaco with a live show from 7 to 10 p.m.
Ticket holders can save 25 percent on a one-night stay or 30 percent on a two-night stay by visiting Salt Hotel & Pub’s website and entering one of two promo codes depending on the length of stay.
Clam Festival and beach cleanup
David J’s show at Salt Hotel & Pub dovetails with the annual Long Beach Razor Clam Festival on April 29-30, as well as the statewide beach cleanup on April 29. This year’s Razor Clam Festival will be a blast – the fun includes clam fritter and clam chowder competitions, live music, a beer garden, family friendly entertainment, contests, digging lessons, gear demos and much more. The Community Beach Cleanup begins at 9:30 a.m. on April 29 on every major beach approach on the Long Beach Peninsula.
Also that weekend, The Sou’Wester celebrates a five-year anniversary with bands and a beer garden. Catch live music from 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, as well as more tunes beginning 10 a.m. Sunday.
Other local live music mainstays include [pickled fish] restaurant at the Adrift Hotel, which hosts bands every evening, and the Peninsula Arts Center in Long Beach that often hosts two weekend shows monthly. Sunday Afternoon Live performances at the Raymond Theater are another regional favorite that feature a wide variety of musicians. Upcoming SAL shows include Everything Fritz on April 23 and the Trail Band Trio on May 14.
